Coming back for our second year at GDC, we knew what to expect—so we came prepared. A more robust demo, killer merch, a booth that turned heads, and the launch of a Discord server to grow our community. Now we’re feeling more inspired than ever to ramp up production and gear up for our Kickstarter launch later this year.
Last year marked our studio’s first step into the game dev world as we attended—and exhibited at—our very first GDC. Our demo was a mobile prototype: a blend of early gameplay ideas and a visual showcase of our strengths as an animation studio branching into a new industry.
The feedback we received was invaluable. We realized Stay Dead had the potential to grow into a larger IP with transmedia reach. From that moment on, we started thinking beyond the game itself and focused on building a world that could live across animation, storytelling, and more.
So this year, we came back with that vision in motion. Our GDC Play booth featured three Steam Decks, a cinematic teaser on a large display, and a hands-on demo that offered a deeper slice of gameplay. From village exploration and side quests al NPC dialogue, two distinct level environments, and a sneak peek at our first major boss encounter (Bossbot)—we were proud to give GDC attendees a meaningful first look at what Stay Dead is becoming.
And of course, the booth wouldn’t have been complete without merch. Attendees who joined our Discord server or made it to the end of the demo had a chance to grab tote bags, sticker sheets, collectible pins, and even the elusive “cure.” Unsurprisingly, the Hades pin once again took the crown for fan favorite.
One of the most meaningful moments for us? Meeting people who remembered us from last year—some even wearing the original pins. We also got to chat with industry creatives we admire, like Greg Lane from Exit73Studios y Mark Brown from Game Maker’s Toolkit.
A question we kept hearing at the booth: “Is this available on Steam yet?” While it’s not just yet, it’s coming soon. The response at GDC was a huge motivator, and we’re channeling that energy into production as we prepare for an early access this fall.
In the meantime, we’re gearing up to launch our Kickstarter campaign this summer to help bring Stay Dead to a wider audience and continue development at full speed. But the vision goes beyond just the game—we’re also developing an animated series built around the Stay Dead universe, bringing our cast of characters to life in new ways.
GDC reminded us how powerful it is to connect directly with players—and our Discord server (which grew by over 200 people!) is where that connection continues.
We’ll be hosting live development sessions, posting regular progress updates, and sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes content. You’ll be able to give feedback on art, features, and design as we build. Plus, we’re planning community events and games around the zombie genre to keep things fun.
